SFC Brian K. Blade stationed at Ft. Drum Army Post, formerly of Allegany, passed away Thursday August 11, 2016 in the University Hospital in Syracuse following a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving wife & family.
Brian was born March 1, 1965 in Olean and was a son of Kenneth A. and Deloris J. Foster Blade. On Aug. 4, 2000, in Olean he married, Nicole M. Nupp, who survives.
Brian graduated from Olean High School in 1983. He had an extensive military career in the US Army serving during two different times, first from 1985 to 1995 and then Brian deployed to Iraq in 2006 with the US Army Reserves. He then returned to active duty and served in the Persian Gulf in 2010 on an LSV Boat, and then was deployed again to Afghanistan in 2015. Brian was currently active duty and stationed at Fort Drum. He worked for Stroehmann's for 7 years in between enlistments. Brian loved the Lord and he enjoyed being a soldier, woodworking, NASCAR, and running.
Along with his loving wife, Brian is survived by his mother, Deloris J. Blade of Jamestown; two daughters Rena L. Teachman of Allegany, and Lauren E. Blade of Allegany; one grandson, Gideon I. Teachman; six siblings, Kenneth (Nancy) Blade of Olean, Brenda Pierce of Limestone, Lance (Laurie) Blade of Carnegie, PA, Danita Colley of Olean, Andrea (Tom) Butts of Alamogordo, NM, and Ellena Blade of Olean; and many nieces & nephews.
Brian was predeceased by his father, Kenneth A. Blade on July 25, 2013; and two siblings, Carla and Barry Blade.
Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., #646 E. State St., Olean, on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and also in the Christ United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 12 noon until 1:00 pm at which time funeral services will be held. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean, with full military honors accorded by the ritual team from Ft. Drum.
