On this #MemberMonday, Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce recognizes #GOACCMember Letro-Mcintosh-Spink Funeral Home.
There has been a Spink Funeral Home in Olean since 1931. After eight years at its original location — 520 W. State St. — Emmett E. Spink relocated the funeral home to 205 N. Third St. for better parking. The business continued there with the addition of his two sons, Joseph and Phillip, joining the staff. The funeral home relocated to its current location at 646 E. State St. in 1958.
In 1988, the business evolved to become Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home. A few years later, the funeral home added a location in Cuba. The business again expanded in 1996 with the addition of cremation services to make it the the only local funeral home to offer that option.
Today, Brad Spink continues the family business. The funeral home employs four full-time employees and five part-time employees. Brad Spink is also a county coroner. Brad Spink is very involved with the Mount View Cemetery Association and maintaining the county Veterans’ cemetery on the River Road.
In the coming months, the funeral home location in Olean will see some renovations and updates so the family business can continue to serve the Olean area for generations to come.
Grief never ends, but it changes.
PLANNING AHEAD
Many people plan for life events such as weddings and vacations well in advance, but many people do not plan for something that is certain to happen, their funeral. While most people do not want to think about their own mortality, the time to pre-plan your funeral is now.
The primary advantages of pre-arranging your funeral is to relieve the burden on your loved ones in an already emotional time, and to ensure your funeral is carried out according to your wishes, eliminating the task of second-guessing what you would have wanted.
Taking the time now to arrange your funeral is one less thing your loved ones will need to worry about once you’ve passed. Pre-planning and pre-paying your funeral is one of the most thoughtful gifts you can give to your family.
It's a passage, not a place to stay.
GRIEF RESOURCES
The death of someone we care about can be one of the most difficult experiences of life. Words seem inadequate to describe how painful the grief we feel can be. It is often much more challenging than we expect and than others seem to think.
These articles will help you understand something about the grief and how we can help ourselves and others through the difficult process. They will also help you understand the grief you may be feeling and how you can cope when someone you care about dies.
If you are struggling and feel you would benefit from additional help, please contact us at our funeral home. Our staff is very familiar with the grief resources in our community, and can refer you to local support groups. We are here to help.
Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith.
