I had Sister “Mo” for U.S. history in the mid 70’s she was an amazing teacher and person. She made the poorest of students learn in her class. She was a pioneer in “no student left behind.” She truly cared about her students. I missed a lot of school that year. When I would return to school she would yell out… “Callahan you’re here?”. After taking the regents, later in the day she noticed me in the hallway and yelled “Callahan get in here, do you know what you got on the regents?” I squeamishly answered “no.”She said “you got a 95!” She was as shocked and pleased as I was. She was a special lady.

I had the pleasure of being in her American History class in my junior year at SJB. Having her as a teacher was the best part of high school. To this day, I still remember so much of what she taught me. In addition to being my teacher, she was a very dear friend who I will miss so very much. Love u, Sr. Mo Pete. Rest In Peace.

Sr. MoPete was one of a kind! Like many others, I was fortunate enough to know her as not only a teacher but also as a cheer coach. She was always on the go, doing for others, and demanded only the best. May God hold you in the palm of his hand MoPete.

Sister at her induction into the SJB Sports Hall of Fame in 2016. Pictures with Ginny Walsh and Kathy Hughes - two of many Cheerleading fellows! It was a very special day and many came from far and wide to celebrate her induction with her. Sr. Maureen Peter/Mo Pete/Elizabeth Moore was a very special person, loving, energetic, compassionate, deeply religious, and true and steady friend. I pray that she is in heaven and at peace.

She was my favorite teacher, I loved that class. If someone didn’t volunteer an answer she would fling open the window (3rd floor) and start to climb out yelling “I’m going to jump!” I still know so many dates of American History, she was a treasure. She still owes me 7 100s on tests for answering “what was the date for the completion of the TranContinental Railroad? May 10,1869. I loved when she told stories of growing up in the City ( I believe it was Hells Kitchen) such as shaking up a Pepsi (she claimed Coke didn’t work) and stripping the paint off passing cars with the spray. Rest In Peace.

In 1972-76 Sr. Maureen Peters was one of the loudest, most passionate, highly energized social studies teacher in the building. My class was down the hall from hers for social studies and I remember listening to her lesson. Her humor was infectious and you knew she had passion for SJB and it’s students. Prayers and fond memories.
Sincerely
Linda Brajevich Caccavalla

Paul Amrhein, SJB class of 72: Obit says she was born in Hells Kitchen. About says it all. She was full of fire and spunk. She loved the school and the students and always had an amazing squad of cheerleaders - her spirit was contagious. Rest in Peace good sister.

Sr. Maureen Peters was a wonderful history teacher and cheer coach. I fist met her when I was seven years old when my oldest sister was a cheerleader, from then on I knew once I attended SJB I wanted to cheer. Luckily, Sr. Moe Pete was still at SJB for my four years not only teaching but still coaching. I'll never forget people's faces when I would tell them how a nun was my cheer coach! So many memories and blessed times. We were the lucky ones to have known her. May she Rest In Peace.

I met Sister Betty while working for St Joseph's Hospital. She was such a bright and fun person. I always looked forward to her selling her baked goods so she could help the poor. After retirement we had lunches and enjoyed spending time together.
God truly blessed me by putting Sister Betty in my life. Such a wonderful friend and servant of the Lord.

I was a student of Sister Maureen Peter in the early 1970's at Saint John the Baptist DHS.
In general, things at that time were tumultuous as anyone from that time would know.
Sister Elizabeth was a demanding and at the same time extremely interesting teacher and person.
There are many stories but I remember her as someone who wasn't influenced by topical subjects.
I liked her very much for being that way and she is in my memory as being one of the best teachers
I have ever had.
My condolences to her family.

Sr. Mo Pete was for me what SJB was all about. As one of her cheerleaders she taught me so much about how to be a servant leader and her words to me in my scrapbook that remains a treasured memory still carries me today, 40 years later. Rest In Peace. Eternally grateful for your presence in my life.
