Obituary of Sr. Victoria Mary Masterpaul

Sister Victoria Masterpaul entered the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany on September 8, 1960, was received into the Congregation on July 2, 1961 and professed her final religious vows on July 2, 1968. Committed to the Franciscan charism, Sister Vicki lived for 59 years as a devoted member of the Allegany Franciscan Sisters, sharing her life in community and ministry. During those years, she demonstrated great strength, endless patience and good humor when faced with adversity.
Sister Vicki graduated from St. Mary Elementary and High Schools in Cortland, NY. Following graduation, she earned a Bachelor Degree in Nursing from Mt. St. Vincent College, New York City, NY, and a Master of Arts in Education as well as a Master of Arts in Sacred Science from St. Bonaventure University, Allegany, NY.
Because of her many gifts, Sr. Vicki’s ministries varied over the years. During 1968-1978, she responded willingly and graciously to serve the Congregation as Assistant General Secretary, Guidance Counselor for the Formation Program, Personnel Director, Editor of our Allegany Newsletter and Assistant/Local Coordinator at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse.
In her nursing capacity, Sr. Vicki ministered with great compassion and taught in our hospitals: St. Clare’s in New York, NY (1963-1965), Our Lady of Lourdes in Camden, NJ (1965-1968) and St. Francis in Miami Beach, FL (1978-1985). While at St. Francis Hospital, Vicki served as Pastoral Care Associate, Patient Representative and Local Coordinator of the convent. She returned to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital from 1985-1989 where she worked in Patient Relations while serving as Local Minister at St. Gregory Convent.
Vicki was elected Region II Minister for the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany (1992-2000). In this ministry, she served the sisters lovingly and attentively and was extremely supportive of them. She was beloved by sisters and friars wherever she ministered. In 2000, she returned to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital School of Nursing until 2002. In July 2002, Vicki retired from active ministry and moved to St. Elizabeth Motherhouse in Allegany, NY.
Sister Vicki is predeceased by her parents, James and Lena Masterpaul. She is survived by a brother, Joseph; sister-in-law, Carol; nieces Corena Morse, Rebecca Stockwin, Monica Felici and a nephew Vincent Masterpaul.
A Wake Service will be held in the Chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, NY, at 6:30pm on Monday, April 22, 2019. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am, on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, in the Chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, followed by burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, NY.
