Olean - Carol P. Dykstra "Loving Mother, Grandmother, and Sister"
Carol P. Dykstra, 84, formerly of 1104 West Henley Street, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at the Absolut of Allegany, surrounded by her loving family.
Carol was born on July 15, 1934 in Olean and was a daughter of the late J. Edgar and Margaret Humes Pelton. She was formerly married to Richard Miller. On May 18, 1968, in Olean, she married her husband of 21 years, Donald Dykstra, who predeceased her on August 16, 1989.
Carol was a 1952 graduate of Olean High School and attended St. Bonaventure University. She worked as a secretary at W.H. Mandeville Insurance Company and then Cooper Industries, formerly McGraw Edison, for 10 years, retiring in 1983.
Carol was a long time member of the Christ United Methodist Church, when she was active in the United Methodist Women, the choir, had been a chairperson of the communion stewards and was the financial secretary. She enjoyed music and crossword puzzles, but she truly loved her family. Her laughter was contagious.
Carol is survived by; 3 daughters, Karen (Martin Faragher) Miller and Pamela J. (Jeff) Mellon both of Olean, and Sandra L. Dykstra of East Rochester; 5 Grandchildren, Sean, Amanda, Andrew, Kylie, and Bridgette; 7 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Douglas H. (Deborah) Pelton of Olean; and several nieces.
Along with her loving husband, Carol was predeceased by a brother, John M. Pelton on Feb. 11, 1994.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State Street, Olean on today, Nov. 2, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. On Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 at the Christ United Methodist Church, at which time funeral services will follow. The Rev. Suzanne M. Block, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery, Veteran's Field of Honor.
