Obituary of Noella Lachat

Born: Marie Noella Lachat on December 18, 1933 Died: Friday, October 7, 2016 Daughter of Leo and Eva (Goulet) Lachat of Winsted, Connecticut. She was received into the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, NY, at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse on August 15, 1952 and professed her final religious vows on August 16, 1959. For more than 60 years, Sister Noella was devoted to the life and Mission of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany. Sister Noella attended grade school at St. Anthony's and high school at Gilbert High School, both in Winsted. She graduated in 1951. In 1952, she entered St. Elizabeth Teacher's College in Allegany, NY, (now a part of St. Bonaventure University) graduating with her Bachelor's in Education in 1966. In 1971, Sr. Noella received a Master's in French from Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. Sister ministered in education as a teacher at Christ the King in Snyder, NY, St. Paul's in St. Petersburg, FL, St. Mary's in Pompton Lakes, NJ, and St. John the Baptist High School in West Islip, NY. While at St. John's, she also served in various aspects of the Administration. Sr. Noella then served the Congregation in a number of capacities, including Local Minister of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, as a member of the Regional Leadership and Local Minister of St. Raphael Convent in West Medford, Massachusetts, where she lived until 2014. Sister was welcomed home to St. Elizabeth Motherhouse in 2016. Sister Noella is predeceased by her parents, Leo and Eva; her aunts, Sr. Marie Germaine, OSF and Sr. Albertine, OSF; and her sister Bernadette Hogencamp and brother, Maurice Lachat. She is survived by her sisters, Leona, Rita, Jeanne, Pauline Hughes and her brother, Charles, as well as many nieces and nephews. A Wake Service is scheduled for Monday, October 10, 2016 at 6:30 PM in the Chapel at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, NY. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 10:30 AM in the Chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, followed by burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, NY. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. 646 East State Street, Olean, NY.
