Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William M. Kinley of 711 Monroe St. went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 21, 2016 at Olean General Hospital after a very brief illness. Mr. Kinley was born on May 3, 1934, he was the only son of the late Adam C. and Irma G. Kinley. Mr. Kinley graduated from St. Bonaventure University and served with the U. S. Army. After discharge from the Army, he worked as an accountant for Pete Sheeser Accounting. He then worked as an accountant for Kinley Oil & Gas until his retirement. He loved visiting Chautauqua Institute, his involvement with Canticle Farms as well as the Mount View Cemetery. Mr. Kinley also served on the board of directors for the Wheat Ridge Foundation and Concordia Teachers College. Mr. Kinley had a great affection for Olean General Hospital and its mission for caring for the community. Following the Kinley family tradition, he joined the Olean General Hospital Board of Directors in July 1980. He was elected Chairman in 1984 and served in this capacity until the completion of his term in 1993. Mr. Kinley was again elected to the Hospital's Board of Directors in 1994 and served as Treasurer until his retirement in 2001. Additionally, Mr. Kinley was instrumental in the creation of the Olean General Hospital Foundation in 1996. He served on the Foundation Board of Directors from 1996 until 2005, at which time he was elected Honorary Director. He was also a charter member of the Mabel Norton Adams Society, of which he was especially proud. Mr. Kinley was instrumental in helping to secure the $15 million bequest of Charles Norton Adams, much of which allowed for the Vision 2000 modernization and expansion project. While he certainly helped Olean General Hospital and many other organizations accomplish many things over his years of service, the greatest gifts he has ever given came from his heart: his kindness, compassion, wisdom and friendship. Mr. Kinley was a mentor at heart. He was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator. He is survived by his special family Shane and Jacqueline Alsworth and their daughters, Subha, Aliya, Kirafiki, and Kayla who they fondly called "grandpa"; Sarah Kinley, niece Caroline Kinley Crawford, and nephew J. L. Kinley; Close friends Eugene Borodin, Shad Syfert and Blaine Syfert, whom he took great pride in mentoring. He was preceded in death by his cousins, James Kinley and Joyce Banfield. As per Mr. Kinley's request, Funeral Services were held privately on Friday, June 24, 2016 at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., #646 E. State St., Olean. The Rev. Vicki Hedlund, Pastoral Care at Olean General Hospital, officiated. Burial was at Mt. View Cemetery, Olean.
