Nicholas J. Ash of 318 N. 3rd Street, passed away on Monday, July 4th, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Nick was born May 1, 1926 in Olean and was a son of the late John Joseph and Adele Simon Ash. He graduated from Olean High School in 1944. Nick served in the US Navy from April 26, 1944 to August 15, 1945. He continued his education earning a Bachelor's Degree from Notre Dame in 1949.
Nick returned to Olean, to help manage the family dry cleaning business for the past 67 years. He was a life-long member of the St. Joseph's Maronite Church, where he was a faithful usher and very active with all the church activities. Nick was one of the Original Board Members of the North Star Bank in Olean. He was a member of the Order of St. Sharbel, a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the Olean Elks Lodge.
Nick is survived by five siblings, Bob L. Ash, John J. Ash, Jr., Elizabeth M. Ash All of Olean, Mary Jane (Charles) Bredehoft of McLean, VA, and Adelle (Louis) Joseph of Anaheim, CA; and many nieces & nephews.
Nick was predeceased by his parents; four siblings, Amelia Shaheen in April 23, 1994, Joseph J. Ash on June 24, 2013, Fred J. Ash on June 28, 2013, and Ameil M. Ash on Aug. 22, 2013.
Friends will be received on Friday, July 8, 2016 in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., #646 E. State St., Olean, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00pm. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 beginning with a prayer service in the funeral home at 9:30 am followed by A Divine Liturgy at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Maronite Rite Church. The Rev. Anthony J. Salim, Pastor, will celebrate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. There will a Service of Incense held at 7:30 pm Friday evening in the funeral home.
