Velma L. Sanders, 98 of Canaseraga passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012 in the Palliative Care Unit at the Cuba Memorial Hospital, Cuba. Mrs. Sanders was born Sep. 6, 1913 in Blasdell, North Dakota and she was a daughter of Byron and Susan Updike Ritter. On June 27, 1936, she married George Sanders who predeceased her in 1997. Mrs. Sanders was a 1931 graduate of Waterloo High School. She enjoyed traveling and RVing, and collecting seashells along the shore. Mrs. Sanders truly enjoyed making her house a home. Mrs. Sanders is survived by two sons, Richard G. (Bonnie) Sanders of Lake George, and Gary B. Sanders of Canaseraga; three grandchildren, Cody Estrada, Lillie Estrada, and Nadine Sanders; one great granddaughter, Ariel; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Mrs. Sanders was predeceased by one sister, Hazel Covert; two brothers, Benjamin Ritter, and Charley Ritter. There will be no public services held at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canaseraga Fire Department, P.O. Box 322, Canaseraga, New York 14822 for their Ambulance Fund.
