Obituary of Charles G. Clark

Charlie G. Clark of 6773 County Route 20, formerly of Belfast, passed away Thursday Sept. 27, 2012 in the Highland Hospital in Rochester surrounded by his loving wife and children, following a courageous battle with cancer. Charlie was born July 11, 1944 in the town of Centerville and was a son of Donald Z. and Florence G. Davis Clark. On Feb. 20, 1965 in Scio he married his loving wife Joyce A. Middaugh, who survives. Charlie was 1964 Graduate of Rushford Central High School. In 1965 he bought a dairy farm in Belfast which he operated until 1986. Charlie served his community first as a Town Councilman and later as Belfast Town Supervisor for many years. Through his life Charlie also worked other jobs including Wayne Feeds and construction. He also drove bus for Belfast Central School and then for Accord Project Head Start for about 15 years retiring in 2008. The children on his bus remembered him fondly as "Mr. Charlie". One of Charlie's passions was horse pulling. He began pulling ponies in 1971 and continued to pull mostly Belgian horses for 32 years in many different states until 2003. He then passed the reins off to his son Boomer and his son-in-law, Terry. Charlie was truly a family man who loved his wife and children and especially his grandchildren. He and his wife where foster parents for many years to ten children. Charlie will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Surviving besides his wife of 47 years are a son, Charles R. "Boomer" (Wendy) Clark of Fillmore; a daughter, Rhonda L. (Terry Smith) Clark of West Farmington, Ohio; two grandchildren, Aubrey and Alex Clark; a brother, Richard E. Clark of Houghton; many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family; and a special aunt, Jesse Cassady of Rushford. There will be a Remembrance Gathering on Saturday, October 6, 2012 in the St. Patrick's Hall in Belfast from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at which time a casual service will be held. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to either the Belfast or Angelica Rescue Squads. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba.
