Tom G. Childs of 1111 Spruce Street, passed away on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012 at home following a lengthy illness. Tom was born on April 10, 1935 in West Clarksville and was a son of Everett and Florence Wereley Childs. On Feb. 27, 1954 at St. Mary of the Angels Church he married his wife of almost 58 years Jeanette E. Dutton, who predeceased him on February 3, 2012. Tom worked for Hydrox Dairy Farm before going to work for an Auto Body Shop with his Father-In-Law, Albert Dutton. He then managed the Shoe Department at Westons Shopper City, in Westons Mills for over 20 years. His company transferred to Horse Heads to manage a shoe store and in 1988 transferred back to Olean to Hills Department Store. He retired in 1995. Tom played baseball for the Octagon Leagues as a catcher for many years and he was formerly a member of the Allegany American Legion Post #892. Surviving Tom are a son, Tom A. (Kim) Child of Olean; a daughter, Deborah A. (Martin) Case of Allegany; five grandchildren, Alan Jon Baker, Scott Everett Baker, Jason Thomas Childs, Bradley John Childs, and Todd Andrew Childs; and four great-grandchildren, Devin Childs, Julius Childs, Brooke Baker, Zachary Baker. Tom was predeceased by two sisters, Jean Jackson and Shirley Delaney; and a brother, Ronnie Childs. Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home #646 E. State Street, Olean on are Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm at which time A Memorial Service will be held. Deacon Michael Bray will officiate.
