Robert L. VanSchaick of 5340 Miller Hill Road passed away Sunday, May 9, 2010 at home following an apparent heart attack. Mr. VanSchaick was born on Feb. 11, 1939 in Nelson, Pa. and was a son of Leon and Gretchen Bennett VanSchaick. On Sept. 25, 1965 in Buffalo he married Kathryn A. Hamilton who survives. Mr. VanSchaick was a 1958 graduate of West Seneca High School. He served in the US Navy from Nov. 11, 1958 to Nov. 30, 1962. Following his military service he began working at Pennsylvania Rail Road (now Contrail) and retired 25 years latter in 1988. He and his wife bought the Royal-Ed-Nor Restaurant and Camp Grounds on Union Valley Road in Hinsdale in 1988 and ran it for a couple of years. Mr. VanSchaick also drove school bus in Olean from 1990 to 2003. He enjoyed being out doors, working around his house (he could fix anything), always working with his hands and was known as "Jack of all Trades and Master of None". But most of all he loved his wife and family and they loved him very much. Surviving Mr. VanSchaick besides his wife of almost 45 years are two daughters, Yvonne M. (Dennis F. O'Neill) of Cuba, and Michelle R. (Michael) Dembski of Hamburg; seven grandchildren, Michelle Nagle, Jennifer E. O'Neill, Michael R. Dembski, Brian A. Dembski, Ryan M. Dembski, Shawn A. O'Neil and Justin W. Dembski; two great grandchildren, Brian Wise and Lilly E. O'Neill; two brothers, Jack (Rae) VanSchaich of Olean, and Ted VanSchaich of Cuba; a sister, Diane (Joseph) Malovitch of Darien, NY; and nieces and nephews. Mr. VanSchaick was pre-deceased by a grandson Adam R. O'Neill on Jan. 13, 2009. Friends may attend a Remembrance Gathering on Saturday, May 15, 2010 starting at noon at the family's home at 5354 Miller Hill Road, Cuba.
