Obituary of Loran F. Shumway

Loran F. Shumway 62, of 311 E. State Street, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 in the Buffalo Veterans Administration Hospital. Mr. Shumway was born on Feb. 11, 1948 in Olean and was a son of Frank H. and Donna McDowell Shumway. He married his wife Christina Taylor on Jan. 20, 1979, who survives. Mr. Shumway was a graduate of Olean High School. He was a Sergeant in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War from Jan. 13, 1967 to Jan. 12, 1971. Mr. Shumway lived in Norfolk, VA and worked as a Meteorology Tec. for NAS, for 21 years. He moved back to Olean and worked for the Olean YMCA. He was an avid Boston Redsox fan. Surviving Mr. Shumway besides his wife of Virginia are a son, Paul F. Shumway of Virginia Beach, VA; a grandson, Isaiah G. Shumwayo of Ill; two brothers, Lary M. (Pam) Shumway, and Elden H. (Patricia) Shumway both of Olean; and two nephews and a niece. A private graveside service, with military honors, will be held at the convenience of the family in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville, NY. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean.
