Obituary of Martha L. Schnell

Martha L. Schnell of 700 Grandview Ave passed away Friday, Dec. 3, 2010 in the Olean General Hospital following a short illness. Mrs. Schnell was born on August 4, 1937 in Olean and was a daughter of Max and Gertrude Jackson Frable. On April 4, 1959 in Olean she married James C. Schnell, who survives. Martha was a 1955 graduate of Olean High School. She was the Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers of America for Cattaraugus County for 8 years in the 1990's. Mrs. Schnell was a life long member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, where she held various positions including Past Counsel President and she was currently acting Financial Secretary. She was a very civic minded person and was very active in many organizations including being a charter member of the Genesis House where she also was on the Board. Mrs. Schnell was a member of the Olean Vonta Club and was Past President of the Olean Campfires Counsel. She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed being with them. Surviving besides her husband of 51 years are a son, Daniel R. Schnell of Olean; a daughter, Linda M. Schnell and her children, Lily Y. and Mikkal L. Schnell of Olean; three brothers, Charles F. (Mary) Frable of Watertown, Phillip R. Frable of Allegany, and Merrill A. (Muriel) Frable of Olean; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Schnell was pre-deceased by a brother, Paul Frable during WWII on Nov. 12. 1944, and a sister, Barbara Ann Langer who died June 11, 2008. Friends will be received on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Bethany Lutheran Church. The Rev. Marie Meeks, Pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Allegany Cemetery, Allegany, NY. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church 1706 Lincoln Ave, Olean, New York 14760 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
