Obituary of Ruth E. Ostrom

Ruth E. Ostrom of 3111 Pennsylvania Road, Lockwood Trailer Court, passed away Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 in the Olean General Hospital. Mrs. Ostrom was born on Oct. 11, 1927 in Franklinville and was a daughter of Clinton E. and Myrtle Howard Hale. She was formerly married to Frederick A. Brookins and Robert L. Ostrom. Mrs. Ostrom being a life long resident of Hinsdale she was a 1946 graduate of Hinsdale High School. She worked at both the St. Frances and Olean General Hospitals in the 1950's, American Tile on the 1960's before going to work at Motorola in Arcade for a number of years retiring in 1980. She was an avid Buffalo Sabers Fan. Surviving Mrs. Ostrom are three sons, David L. (Dona) Brookins of Clinton Springs, Larry F. (Shawne) Brookins of Olean, and Terry E. Brookins of Texas; five grandchildren, Terry E. Brookins, Jr., Hilary M. (Dave) Rinehart, Amy Batista, Brande B. Brookins and Leah Brookins; two great grandsons, Ethan Richard and Alex Batista; two brothers, Frank (Doris) Hale of Olean, and Tom (Shirley) Hale of Hinsdale; a sister, Jane Kayser of Hinsdale; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ostrom was pre-deceased by 10 brothers and sisters, Mildred Marks, Dorothy Butchello, June Van Curen, Art Hale, Jim Hale, Dick Hale, Hazel Cronk, William Hale Fred Hale and Martha Grigly. There will be no public visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Daniel E. McDowell, Pastor of the Olean First Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Olean General Hospital, 515 Main Street, Olean, NY 14760.
