John C. Long, Sr. (89) of Route 417 Colonial Village passed away today, Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 in the Olean General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Long was born June 9, 1921 in Venus, Pa. and was a son of Homer S. and Bessie L. Motter Long. On March 7, 1948 in Olean he married June Foster, who pre-deceased him on Sept. 11, 2004. Mr. Long served in the US Army during WWII from July 1, 1942 to Dec. 21, 1945. He began working for Ford Stamping in Woodlawn, NY where he worked for over 29 years retiring in the early 1980's as a Shipper/Checker. He enjoyed Old Time Western Movies, Gospel Music, Reading his Bible, Watching the Rev. John Hagee and riding his bicycle. Surviving Mr. Long are a son, John C. (Carol) Long, Jr. of Olean; two daughters, Sharon Connelly of Olean, and Sally Sennett of Mt. Morris; 7 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Dieffenbacher of Geneseo, and Ilene (Bob) Williams of Eldred, PA. Mr. Long was pre-deceased by an infant son; two daughters, Marie L. Smith in 2000 and Sharon L. Connelly 2009; and five brothers, Harry, Bob, Toots, Jr. and Jim Long. Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 from 11:00 to 12 noon at which time funeral and committal services will be held. The Rev. Robert E. Goode will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery, Veterans Field of Honor in Olean, NY. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
