Stephen L. Bennett of 63 Dogwood St., Kennedy, NY, formerly of Fay Hollow Road Hinsdale, passed away Sat. July 17, 2010 in the Erie County Medical Center Burn Unit, Buffalo, from injuries sustained in a fire at his home.
Mr. Bennett was born on January 3, 1939 in Bradford, PA and he was the son of Charles & Madeline Piscitelli, Bennett. On Sept. 17, 1966 in Niagara Falls, NY, he married his wife Bonnie A. Cushman, who survives.
Mr. Bennett began working on the family farm, Bennett Farm in Hinsdale, early in his life. He continued farming on the Ernst Farm in Port Allegany until he lost a leg in a farming accident in 1963. In 1966 he worked as an auto mechanic in Niagara Falls. After returning to Hinsdale, Mr. Bennett worked at Case Cutlery for 6 years and then the Olean General Hospital in the laundry for 13 years retiring in 1989 due to his health. In 1999 they moved to Kennedy, NY.
Mr. Bennett had a loved for all animals and he especially loved his faithful dog Cocoa. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and especially his grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Surviving Mr. Bennett besides his wife of almost 44 years are one son, Stephen C. (Robin) Bennett of Hinsdale; a daughter, Bonnie J. (Shauna Frey) Bennett of Kennedy; two grandchildren; a great grandson; two brothers, Gordon W. Bennett of Ischua, and Duane W. Bennett of Daytona Beach, Fl.; four sisters, Alberta M. (William) Frey of Niagara Falls, NY, Margaret E. (Lloyd) Brocious of Lewis Run, Pa., Marjorie L. (Larry) Hummel of Lakeland, Fla., and Debra K. (Rick) Tierson of Hinsdale; a sister in law, Michelle L. Prentice of Hinsdale; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean Wed. July 21, 2010 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at which time a memorial service will be held. The Rev. Terry L. Jenks, Pastor of the Hinsdale Baptist Church, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the SPCA Route 16 Pleasant Valley, Olean, NY 14760.
