Myron D. Meyers of 3102 Rt. 16 North passed away June 29, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a 13 year long battle with cancer. Myron was born Dec. 9, 1930 in Sardinia and was a son of Sherman H. and Ethel Belle Rogers Meyers. On July 29, 1961 he married his wife of almost 52 years, Elma Jayne (Gerringer) Meyers who survives. Myron attended Sardinia High School and Arcade High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1947 and retired in June 1967 from Jacksonville, Florida. Myron took training at the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, IL. After training, he served in the following location, Saufley Field in Pensacola, FL, Naval Air Station Corry Field, Pensacola, FL, H0-1 Naval Air Station in Miramar, CA, V.S. 931 Naval Air Station Los Alamitos, CA, VP-40 Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, CA, FAW 13 Naval Air Station Moffett Field, CA, and Oak Knoll Naval Hospital, Almeda, CA. Myron served aboard the USS Coral Sea and the USS Constellation VP-7 in Jacksonville, FL. He also served at VA-125 Naval Air Station Moffett Field and Naval Air Station Sangley Point Republic of the Phillipines. He did a tour of duty in Iceland with VP-7, a tour of duty in Japan, and a tour of duty in Subic Bay, Phillipines. It was on the Coral Sea at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL where Myron was honorably discharged in June of 1967. Upon his retirement, he was awarded the following ribbons: Navy Good Conduct medal w/4 Bronze Stars, National Defense Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citations Ribbon, Republic of Korea War Service medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. After retiring from the service, Myron returned to Olean to live. He loved being with his family and grandchildren, playing Wii, and his dog, Joey. Myron liked fishing, mowing his lawn, and traveling. Along with his loving wife, Myron is survived by three sons, Jim (Kelly) Meyers of Chaffee, Chuck Meyers of Olean, and Dan (Tanya) Meyers of Olean; two daughters, Rona Cristiano of Long Beach, CA, and Cindy (Dale) Wagner of Allegany; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jim Meyers, Mickey (June) Meyers, and Gary Meyers all of Sardinia; three sisters, Lillian Thieman of Conroe, TX, Doris Crabb of Arcade, and Marlene Keller of Sardinia; and many nieces and nephews. Myron was predeceased by two sisters, Polly Schmidt and Bonnie Vandermer; and one infant brother, Robert Meyers. Friends will be received Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State St. Olean from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at which time Funeral Services will be held. The Rev. Norby Adames will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, #2275 Dugan Road, Olean, New York 14760 or to Home Care and Hospice, #1225 West State Street, Olean, New York 14760.
