Obituary of Alvin H. McFarlin

Alvin H. McFarlin, of 3429 Ford Mile Road passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, at his home following a lengthy illness surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. McFarlin was born July 12, 1941 in Bradford, PA and was a son of Alvin H. and Dora Jamison McFarlin, Sr. Mr. McFarlin was formerly married to Kathleen Meeks. On September 2, 1989 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Olean, he married his wife of 24 years, Alice L. Buchholz, who survives.
Al graduated from Bradford High School in 1959. He then received his Associates Degree in Laboratory Medicine from Carnegie Institute in Cleveland, Ohio and finished his Bachelors Degree through Empire State College while working at the Salamanca District Hospital. Al worked in the lab at Salamanca for almost 20 years before going to work at the Olean Medical Group as a lab manager in 1981. He retired in 1995.
Al was a member of the Hinsdale United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Ski Patrol at both Ski Wing and Holiday Valley. Al enjoyed hunting and golf.
Along with his loving wife, Al is survived by four children, Todd (Karen) McFarlin of Colorado Springs, CO, Kelli McFarlin-Griffin of Salamanca, Jamie (Misty) McFarlin of Ontario, and Jennifer (Dale Deboy) DeKay of Killbuck; five grandchildren, and one brother, Phillip L. (Amy) McFarlin of Meadville, PA.
Al was predeceased by one sister, Priscilla Miller in 1992.
Friends will be received Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 East State Street, Olean, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at the Hinsdale United Methodist Church at 12:00 PM. Mr. Monroe Bishop and The Rev. Dennis Durfee, Chaplain for Home Care & Hospice will officiate.
