Clinton V. Matteson, 101, formerly of 103 South Main St. Portville and 57 Medbury Ave, Cuba, passed peacefully away on Saturday, July 27, 2013 in the Wellsville Manor Nursing Home, Wellsville. Mr. Matteson was born on Feb. 25, 1912 in Whitesville and was a son of Van and Anna McElroy Matteson. On May 5, 1935 he married Frances S. Eymer in the Chapel on Campus at Ithaca, NY, who pre-deceased him on Jan. 1, 1985. On June 6, 1992 in Cuba he married Iona Robinson Buckles, who pre-deceased him on April 9, 2013. Clinton graduated from Belmont High School in 1931. He spent several years working for F.C. Thomas (Market Baskets Stores) as a manager at the stores in Belmont, Belfast and Portville. Clinton worked for F.S. Mason Furniture & Undertaking in Friendship from 1939 to 1942 and from 1942 to 1945 he was a Steam Turbine Test Mechanic for Worthington Corp in Wellsville. In 1945-1952 He owned & operated a service station & convenience store in Maplehurst, NY. 1952-1955 Clinton worked for the F. E. Sittig Oil Co. in Olean. August 1, 1966 he returned to Worthington (now called Turbodyne Corp.) in Wellsville as a field Services Representative retiring Feb. 1, 1977. Clinton was a 65 plus year member of the Cuba United Methodist Church and a member and past Master Cuba Masonic Lodge No 306. He enjoyed traveling with the Holiday Ramblers travel club and playing golf. Surviving Clinton are two sons, Bruce W. (Sharon) Matteson of Cuba, and Reid C. (Cynthia) Matteson of Smethport; a daughter, Mrs. Marcia E. (Richard) Keefe of Savannah, NY; a stepson, Richard (Nancy) Buckles of Williamsville; 7 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wives, Clinton was pre-deceased by two step sons, Ronald and James Buckles; two brothers, Harold Matteson and Van Matteson Jr.; and five sisters, Dorothy Dietz, Leona Sortore, Ruth Brown, Gertrude Livergood and Elvena Freeman. Friends will be received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. 24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, where Funeral & Committal Services will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 2:00 pm. The Rev. Clara E. Wilder, Pastor of the River's Edge United Methodist Church in Portville, will officiate. Interment will be in the Cuba Cemetery, Cuba. Members of the Cuba Friendship Masonic Lodge No 306 will conduct a Masonic Service in the Funeral Home on Tuesday evening following visitation at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cuba Friendship Lodge No 306 F&AM #3 E. Main Street, Cuba, NY 14727 or to the Salvation Army 25 E. Pearl Street, PO Box 549 Wellsville, NY 14895.
