Obituary of Clayton A. Burger

Clayton A. Burger, of 8737 Hoyett Road, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
Clayton was born March 15, 1920 in Candor, the son of Homer W. and Retta A. Ferris Burger. Clayton and his sister Jessie were orphaned at a young age and the court awarded custody to their paternal Grandmother Emily Sterns Burger of Andover. Clayton and Jessie were raised by William and Isabel Wereley Burger, their father's brother and their five children as their own. Clayton graduated from Andover High School, "Class of 1939", and went to Cuba to work in the cheese factory. He served as a Medic/Corpsman during WWII, serving in the Asian Theater, 222 Station Hospital. After the war Clayton returned to West Clarksville and bought a farm on Rt 305. He ran this large dairy farm with the help of several local boys and even some girls, who helped with milking, haying and other chores. Clayton received numerous Quality Milk Awards from Conesus Milk Producers. He was also member of the Friendship American Legion. Clayton enjoyed cows, John Deere equipment, horse pulls, fairs, haying, and mint candies especially peppermint discs. His true enjoyment was spending time with his friends and family.
Clayton is survived by a sister, Janet (James) Appier of Big Flats; two sisters in law, Marjorie Burger of Hornell, and Kathleen Burger of Big Flats; a nephew, Joseph (Ella) Baker and family of Arizona; a niece, Constance Baker (Randal) and family of Andover; a dear close friend, Alice Rogers and her family of West Clarksville; and several great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Clayton was predeceased by those who raised him along with three brothers, Bernard, Donald, Robert Burger, and two sisters Jessie Burger (Newell) Baker, Phyllis Burger (Edward Sr.) Wilson, and a dear cousin Helen Jantz.
Friends will be received Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013 at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #24 Genesee Pkwy Cuba from 6 pm to 8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013 at 4 pm. The Rev. Leslie E. Chambers, Pastor of the West Clarksville Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be at the Valley Brook Cemetery in Andover.
