Shirley M. Peters of 6254 Limestone Run Road passed away Friday, March 6, 2009 at home following an illness. Born Feb. 10, 1935 in Olean she was a daughter of Harvard C. and Doris Shaw Hitchcock. On Aug. 14, 1954 at the Knapp Creek Trinity United Methodist Church she married her husband of 54 years John I. Peters, who survives. Mrs. Peters was a graduate of Allegany High School Class of 1953. They moved to Limestone in Nov. 1956. She served as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader for many years. Mrs. Peters was a member of the Limestone United Methodist Church since 1957, but most of all she was a stay-at-home mom and grandma. She enjoyed cross-stitching, embroidery, jigsaw puzzles, camping and spending time with her family and especially following her grandchildren sporting games. Mrs. Peters truly loved her family and her dog. Surviving besides her husband are two sons, David (Cheryl) Peters of Knapp Creek, and Donald (Robin) Peters, Sr. of Knapp Creek; two daughters, Debbie (Mike) Damiano of Belfast, and Cindy Snyder of Olean; a son in law, Wesley Snyder of Rock City; 12 grandchildren, David (Carrie) Peters Jr., Brandon (Bethany) Peters, Catherine (Robbie Robinson) Peters, Bradley (Stephany Hazelett) Snyder, Kristen (Dustin Cooney) Snyder, Amanda (Jesse Stephan) Snyder, Christina (Nick Ramier) Peters, Donald Peters Jr., Ethan Peters, Daniel Peters, Joey Damiano and Angel Peters; 6 great grandchildren; two brothers, Chuck (Virginia) Hitchcock, Sr. of Knapp Creek, and Harvard (Marilyn) Hitchcock of Knapp Creek; five sisters, Frances (Anthony) Bunk of Belfast, Mavisa (Herman) Foster of Richburg, Rose Cooley of Weston Mills, Darlene (Edward) Stover of Limestone, and Donna (William) Rice of Knapp Creek; and several extended family members. Mrs. Peters was pre-deceased by Mom & Dad; two infant sons; two brothers-in-law, Grant Cooley and Edward Peters; and a nephew Chuck Hitchcock, Jr. Friends will be received on Monday, March 9, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean. Where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. the Rev. Stephen R. Crowell, Pastor of the Limestone United Methodist Church and the Rev. Gerald Piper will officiate. Burial will be in the Allegany Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Limestone Fire Department Ambulance, or the Limestone United Methodist Church or to the Home Care & Hospice.
