George J. Moses, Sr. of 878 North 4th Street, Olean passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 surrounded by his loving wife and family following a long illness. Mr. Moses was born on January 18, 1938 in Olean. He was the son of Joseph and Josephine Nohra Moses. On October 16, 1982 at Saint Joseph Maronite Church, he married Carol A. Oliva, who survives. Mr. Moses served in the U.S. Air Force from Feb. 1, 1955 to Nov. 30, 1958. He worked as a bartender in number of local restaurants including the Century Manor, Olean House, Rack & Rib and most recently at the Beef & Barrel retiring in 1998 due to illness. Mr. Moses also worked at Pepsi Bottling Works for several years in the service department. Mr. Moses was a member of St. John's Church. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and a good card game. But most of all, he truly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them and especially his grandchildren. George will be remembered as always putting others first. In addition to his wife, Mr. Moses is survived by a son, George J. (Christine) Moses of Olean; a daughter, Pamela L. (Robert) Devling of Olean; eight grandchildren, Christina M. Devling, Stephanie N. Devling, Robert M. Devling, Monica M. Moses, Adam G. Moses, Mariah C. Moses, Isaac G. Moses, Ava J. Moses; five step children, Daniel DiPaola, Anthony DiPaola, B. Kathleen Jehlen, Karen Caya, Michael DiPaola; four sisters Eva Yorke, Lucille (Frank) Kaduc, Rochelle ( Max) Baire, and Ann Marie Worth all of Olean; Mr. Moses is predeceased by a brother, Moses J. Moses; seven sisters, Julia Joseph, Bertha Moses, Emily Saab, Elia Abdo, Margaret Ehman, Daye Maarsen and Yvonne Harris. Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean on Sunday, August 16, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 17, 2009 beginning with a prayer service in the funeral home at 9:30 AM followed by at Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in St. John's Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Edward J. Sheedy, Pastor of St. John's Church, The Rev. MSGR Willam O. Wangler, Retired Pastor of St. John's Church and the Rev. Gregory J. Dobson, Pastor of St. Mary Church will concelebrate. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. Memorials may be made to St. John's Roman Catholic Church, 931 N. Union Street, Olean, NY 14760, St. Joseph's Catholic Maronite Rite Church, 331 N. 4th Street, Olean, NY 14760 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
