Leah K. Giberson of 1514 Flannigan Hill Rd, Hinsdale passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009 in the Cuba Skilled Nursing Facility.
Mrs. Giberson was born on Oct. 8, 1919 in Olean and was a daughter of William M. and Hazel Ritzaur Geuder. She married her husband William M. Giberson at the Immanuel Lutheran Church on Sept. 9 1939 who pre-deceased her on July 8, 1981.
Mrs. Giberson was a 1937 graduate of Olean High School. She worked for Market Basket Super Market for about 18 years and for Montgomery Wards for many years. She also worked at S. S. Kresges and N.T. Grouts before going to work at the Hinsdale Post Office where she retired from after 20 years.
Mrs. Giberson was a life long member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Olean where she sang for many years in the choir and taught Sunday School and also served as a lector. She was a VIP member of the Hinsdale Norton Chamber Post 1434 American Legion Aux, where she held office as Secretary-Treasurer, Chaplain & vice President of Cattaraugus County. Mrs. Giberson was a life member of the Hinsdale Fire Department where she served as Fire Police for 35 years and worked Bingo for 30 years and she served as treasurer of the fire district for 10 years. Mrs. Giberson was also was a volunteer at Olean General Hospital for many years and both the Fay Hollow Sunshine Club and Hinsdale Busyettes.
Mrs. Giberson is survived by five grandsons, Marc (Stacy) Giberson, Richard (Darcy) Giberson, Jason (Kathy) Giberson, Rich (Sherry Byrne) Foster, and Ken (Wendy Kemp) Foster; 11 great grandchildren, Heather Herald, Cody, Shelby, Anthony, Jesse, Ashley & Jamilyn Giberson, Stephanie & Ashley Foster, and Mariah & Cash McGhee; and a daughter in law, Linda S. Giberson of Hinsdale.
Mrs. Giberson was pre-deceased by a son, James W. Giberson on Nov. 25, 2004, a brother, Paul Geuder, and a niece, Jean Geuder in 1993.
Friends will be received on Monday, April 13, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean. Funeral and Committal Services will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dr. Derek J. Cheek, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Allegany Cemetery, Allegany, NY.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or to the Hinsdale Fire Department.
