Sylvia P. Lasky formerly of 2063 Hillcrest Ave, passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009 in the Bradford Manor Nursing Home following a brief illness. Mrs. Lasky was born in Rochester and was a daughter of Morris and Celia Snyder Paul. On Sept. 29, 1945 in Rochester she married Bernard Lasky who pre-deceased her on July 16, 1984. Mrs. Lasky was a graduate of East High School in Rochester and was a graduate of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle at Chautauqua. She also attended Alfred and Niagara Universities. Mrs. Lasky was well known as a free lance writer and artist. Mrs. Lasky was a member of the B'Nai Israel Congregation where she served as a vice-president of the Daughters of Israel. She was active in civic affairs, serving as President and honorary life member of the Olean Art Association, and served on the Olean General Hospital Auxiliary Board of Directors, serving as Chairman of the Holiday decorating. She was a sponsor of the Olean Public Library, and was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Olean Area Campfire Council. She also served as a volunteer worker with the American Red Cross in Olean and Rochester. Mrs. Lasky had been active in various local fund raisers and was a member of the Olean Historical and Preservation Society. She was a volunteer for interfaith Care Givers and Served on the Fresh Air Fund Committee for underprivileged Children. She was a life member of the Chautauqua Woman's Club, life member of the Chautauqua Art Association and the Chautauqua Literary & Scientific Circle. She and her husband Bernard hosted Fresh Air Children during the summer. Surviving Mrs. Lasky are two sons, Mark C. Lasky of Olean, and David C. (Pam) Lasky of Olean; five granddaughters, Michelle Lasky, Brianna Lasky, Amanda Lasky, Rebecca Lasky, Emily Lasky; a great grandson, Corbin Reynolds; a twin sister, Mrs. Mildred Levine of Oneonta, NY.; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lasky was pre-deceased by five brothers, Harry Paul, Joseph Paul, Gabriel Paul, Sol J. Paul and Samuel Paul; and three sisters, Henrietta Bunis, Gertrude Guenzberg, and Bess Benewick. Friends where received in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, #646 E. State Street, Monday Evening from 7-9 and today, Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009 from 9:00 to 11:00 A.M. at which time Funeral Services will be held. Burial will be in the B'Nai Israel Cemetery, Olean. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the B'nai Israel Temple 127 S. Barry Street, Olean, NY.
