Obituary of Lawrence W. Kilmer

Lawrence W. Kilmer formerly of 2603 West River Road, Olean, passed away Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009 in the Cuba Skilled Nursing Facility. Mr. Kilmer was born on June 30, 1916 in Randolph, NY and was a son of Lewis A. & Minne M. Belden Kilmer. On April 6, 1946 in Brocton, NY he married Shirley Shaw, who pre-deceased him on April 29, 2007. Mr. Kilmer worked for Universal as a shipper and a projectionist at the Jubilee in Buffalo before becoming a Sector Warden for the Civilian Defense in Buffalo. Mr. Kilmer served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Philippines. While in the Philippines he was instrumental in designing and building a theater that would hold over 21000 troops. Following the war he moved to Olean in 1946 and built his own home. He worked W.N. Hall & Son in Allegany for many years. He also worked for the local theaters until his retirement in Sept. of 1993. He also had a printing and hobby shop out of his home. He wrote 3 books on the rail road and taught himself how to play the piano and liked country music. Mr. Kilmer was also good at electrics and was good at TV & Radio repair. He was a very giving person who liked to help others. Surviving Mr. Kilmer are four sons, Carl L. (Jean) Kilmer of West Union, Il., Robert L. Kilmer of Mocksville, NC., Larry W. (Amber) Kilmer of Cuba, and Paul D. (Susan) Kilmer of Fairview, Pa.; four daughters, Noni J. (Daryl) Willover of Allegany, Deanna L. (Milton) Stalnaker of Tobaccoville, NC., Sandy J. (David) Adams of Lincoln, NB., and Brenda S. (Barry) Voll of Liverpool, NY.; 33 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren. Mr. Kilmer was pre-deceased by a daughter, Kathleen May Kilmer on Aug. 23, 1954; a son, Chuck Kilmer on April 24, 1983; 3 brothers, Leroy R., Milton D., and Harold F. Kilmer; and 2 sisters, Ruth and Evelyn Kilmer. Friends will be received on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. The Rev. Donald F. Nagy Associate Pastor of the North Park Weslyan Church will officiate. Burial with military honor's accorded by the Allegany American Legion will be in the Mt. View Cemetery, Olean.
