Bernard G. Ahearn formerly of 920 Griffin St. Olean, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2009 in D'Ville House, Donaldsonville, Louisiana. Mr. Ahearn was born June 5, 1931 in Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada. He was the youngest son of Michael and Olivia Dougherty Ahern. On July 26, 1958, in Shediac, New Brunswick, Canada he married the former Corinne Hebert, who survives. He served in the Canadian Army from 1958-1961, stationed in Cairo, Egypt. He moved to the U.S. in 1963, where he worked as a plumber and pipefitter for most of his life. He retired in 1992. He was a member of St. Mary of the Angel's Church and of The Professional Plummer and Pipefitter's Union. Mr. Ahearn will be remembered for his love for his family, his devotion to his Catholic faith, his love of his Irish heritage and his "gift of gab". He was able to enjoy a trip to Ireland in 2000, which was a lifelong dream. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Kelly Paoletto of Donaldsonville, La., Caroline (Charles Teasley) Abbott of Louisville, KY, Christine (John) Chapman of Olean, NY and Elizabeth (Sean Brookings) Ahearn of Boston, Ma. and a son, John M. Ahearn of Olean, NY. He is survived by 11 grandchildren, Kevin and Kyle Kocke, Margaret and Samantha Abbott, Mikelyn and Mahli Brophy, Gina and Scott Paoletto, Rebecca Ahearn, Corinne Penston and Liam Chapman. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Ahrean was predeceased by his daughter, Coleen Ahearn Brophy on November 22, 2009, three brothers, Edward Ahern, Joseph Ahern and Charles Ahern and two sisters, Mary Ahern LeBlanc and Irene Ahern Bourgeois. At his request, there will be no visitation. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery, Olean. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to D'Ville House, 401 Vatican Drive, Donaldsonville, La. 70346. Arrangements are incomplete and are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean.
