Margaret J. Schumpf, of 301 West Henley Street, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Pines Health & Rehab, following an illness.
Margaret was born on July 18, 1950 in Southampton, NY and was a daughter of Joseph John and Irene Mary Mazurek Schumpf. She graduated from Patchogue-Medford High School in 1968.
Margaret worked as a security officer for the IRS in Holbrook, NY for 25 years, retiring in 2003, at which time she moved to Olean. She worked as a teacher's aid at East View Elementary School for about 3 years, before becoming a volunteer in the Foster Grandparents Program at East View for over 5 years.
Margaret was an independent, strong-willed woman. She raised her three children on her own and gave them everything she could. She truly loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandsons, who were the light of her life. Margaret had a zest for life and was genuine to every person she met. She had a creative vocabulary that could only be matched by the size of her heart. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and gardening.
Margaret is survived by one daugher, Rychelle L. (Brian) Weseman of Olean; one son, Kevin J. (Maria Gaida) Kirchner of Long Island; two grandsons, Ryan and Gavin Weseman; four siblings, Patricia (Tom) Maher of Patchogue, Michelle (Scott) Tierney of Patchogue, Barbara (Joe) Lazzaro of Mattituck, and her twin sister, Jeannette Schumpf; a sister-in-law, Sharon (Marty) Cantalino of Middle Island; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and life-long friend, Lynn (Bob) Morse of Palm Coast, FL.
Margaret was predeceased by one son, Michael J. Kirchner on Aug. 25, 2005; and one brother, Joseph Schumpf.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., #646 E. State Street, Olean on Monday, June 5, 2017 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, at which time a Funeral Service will be held. Burial will be in the Allegany Cemetery.
