Janice I. Savey, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Friday, April 28, 2017 in York, PA following her courageous battle with a long illness.
She was born in West Clarksville, NY on March 4, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Archie and Bernice (Hopkins) Hamilton. On October 10, 1954, she married her husband of 28 years, Ted R. Savey, who predeceased her on August 6, 1983.
Janice had many accomplishments in her life. She made medical history in WNY for her extreme courage and determination to undergo the very first ever Trans Catheter Aortic Valve Replacement where she was named the "TAVR Queen". Her working career included being a licensed beautician, being employed at Portville Central School in the cafeteria and as a school bus driver. Janice was also the secretary bookkeeper for Savey's Fire Service and retired in 2003 as the administrative assistant with Interfaith Caregivers.
Janice loved to be around people and had many interests which included being a charter member of the Portville Music Boosters, Portville Lions Club, Order of the Amaranth Portville Court # 19, where she held both local and state offices, and The Jolly Dolly Red Hatters. In addition to her involvement in her church, Janice was a member of the Rochester and Eldred Koinonia, where she served on many teams along with the continuance board. She loved to travel, do crafts, read, work puzzle books and play games.
Janice will be missed by her surviving children: Trudy (Scott) Harting of GA, Randy Savey of MN, Carol (Scott) Heron of TN, Merry Savey and Kelly Savey of PA; seven grandchildren, Amy Harting, Kristin (Mark) Leahy, Danielle Harting, Michelle Heron, Bo Savey, Kaylee (Joseph) Pauley, and Bonnie Savey; two great grandchildren, Lucas Breeden and Fiona Leahy, her sister, Judy (Bob) Poirier two brothers, Jerry (Heidi) Hamilton and Joe (Polly) Hamilton.
Along with her loving husband, Janice was predeceased by a brother, John Hamilton; a sister, Jeannettee Neetz, and a daughter-in-law, Becky Savey.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home at 646 E. State Street, Olean, on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Wednesday, May 10th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with a celebration of life service to follow. Interment will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Portville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Portville American Legion Post 814, #24 South Main Street, Portville, New York 14770.
