Died: March 31, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse in Allegany, NY.
Daughter of Santo and Adeline Scioli Lucente of Newton, MA.
Sister Rose Marie was received into the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, NY, at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse on August 15, 1952, and professed her final religious vows on August 16, 1959. Sister Rose Marie faithfully lived the Mission of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany for over 65 years.
Sister attended elementary and secondary schools in Cambridge, MA, graduating from Cambridge High and Latin School in 1946. Upon entering the Congregation in 1951, she attended St. Elizabeth Teacher College in Allegany, NY (now part of St. Bonaventure University); however, she transferred to Villanova University in Villanova, PA, earning her B.S. in Nursing with a minor in Philosophy in 1968. In later years, Sister pursued graduate work at Newton-Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing in Newton Lower Falls, MA, and St. Bonaventure University, where she earned her M.A. in Theology in 1982.
Sister Rose Marie ministered in the field of healthcare at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, NJ, as a highly acclaimed Obstetrics Supervisor for 15 years. In 1968, she was transferred to Florida, where she served in congregational hospitals in Tampa and St. Petersburg. Five years later, Sister returned to the Allegany area, where she assumed the role of Infirmary Nurse on the campus of St. Bonaventure University, following a term as Supervisor of the Motherhouse Infirmary. From 1977 to 2000, she ministered in various capacities in congregational and parochial institutions in Florida. Her final ministry, as a nurse, was to her own dear mother for three years. Sister Rose Marie was warmly welcomed home to St. Elizabeth Motherhouse in 2003, where she served as the librarian for a number of years.
Sister Rose Marie was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Frank. She is survived by three brothers, George, John, and Richard, and several nieces and nephews.
A Wake Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017, in the Chapel at St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, New York. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in the Chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, followed by burial in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, New York.
