Roger Chapman of 902 Rt. 446 passed away Monday, April 28, 2008 in the Palliative Care Unit at Cuba Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Chapman was born Sept. 30, 1936 in Hornell and was a son of Beatrice Milgate. On Nov. 12, 1960 in St. Mary of the Angels Church he married his wife Mary P. Snyder, who pre-deceased him on Nov. 8, 2005.
Mr. Chapman served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 30, 1953 to Sept. 28, 1956 and in the U.S. Navy from Sept. 11, 1963 to Sept. 14, 1967. He also serviced in the U.S. Amy Reserve for eight years. Mr. Chapman started working at Alcas Cutlery in 1968 retired 31 years later in 1999.
Mr. Chapman was a member of the Hinsdale Fire Department where he served as Parade Master. He was also a member of the Hinsdale American Legion Norton Chamber Post1434. Mr. Chapman enjoyed camping at Triple R Camp Grounds in Franklinville and watching his grandson play sports. He also enjoyed bowing, watching NASCAR and was an avid Chicago Bull Fan.
Surviving Mr. Chapman are a son, Roger L. (Wendy) Chapman of Olean; a daughter, Deborah A. Grabowski of Hinsdale; five grandsons, Christian M. Grabowski, Mark A. Grabowski, DJ Grabowski, Jacob L. Chapman and Lucas M. Chapman; two brothers, Richard Chapman of Kentucky and Ronald (Betty) Chapman of West Clarksville; and a sister, Patricia Chapman of Hinsdale.
Mr. Chapman was pre-deceased by a brother Gary Chapman in 1995.
Friends will be received on Thursday, May 1, 2008 from 7-9PM and on Friday, May 2, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Street, Olean, where funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. Robert Goode will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean with military honor's accorded by the Hinsdale American Legion Norton Chamber Post 1434.
Memorials may be made to the Cuba Memorial Hospital 140 West Main St, Cuba, N.Y. 14727 for the benefit of the Palliative Care Unit.
