Albert W. "Moon" Kayes, of 414 Center Street, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit, surrounded by his loving wife.
Moon was born April 12, 1937 in Olean and was a son of William and Esther Thurston Kayes. He was formerly married to Margaret Z. Sutter, On July 7, 1973 in Olean he married his wife of 43 years, Linda L. Rank, who survives.
Moon worked for Olean Lumber Company for 37 years. He served in the Marines and the National Guard in the 1950's and 1960's. Moon was a life member of the Olean Rod & Gun Club, the NRA and all the local coffee shops.
Moon enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, fishing, shooting trap, and going to the Olean Oilers Baseball. He loved his family and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren.
Along with his loving wife, Moon is survived by five children, Kelly A. (Brian) Scudder of Rochester, Jeffery P. (Lisa) Kayes of Olean, Heidi L. (Michael) Tambroni of Camillus, Kathleen M. (Randall) Wandover of Little Elm, TX and Jenny L. Connelly of Olean; seven grandchildren, Emily, Patrick, Jordan, Gabriella, Dominick, Audrey, and Sara; one brother, Henry Kayes of Eldred; and two nieces, Heather & Holly.
At Moon's request there will be no visitation, and funeral service will be at the convenience of the family.
