Olean- Barbara A. Whitney “Loving Wife, Mother and Nana”
Barbara A. Whitney of 4115 South 9 Mile Road passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022 at the Olean General Hospital.
Barbara was born on May 11, 1948, in Newark, NJ and was the daughter of Wilbur K. and Georgette Bradfield Hoffman. On March 7, 1970, she married her loving husband John N. Whitney who survives.
Barbara lived her life with her family, always being the most important part of it. She started her career working as a CNA at the Allegany Nursing Home, later becoming a military wife of 20 years raising her 3 children and always supporting her husband wherever duty called. After the military she came back to her husband’s hometown of Allegany and went back to work at Allegany Nursing Home and later retired from the Valley View Manor. She enjoyed her life as a deeply loved wife, mother, nana and great nana to her amazing family.
Barbara loved spending time watching football, especially the Buffalo Bills, fishing, gardening, cooking, playing Yahtzee and shopping with her girls. She loved all sorts of animals, leaving behind her beloved Sophie and Bailey. What Barb loved most of all, was any holiday, birthday, or gathering that all of the family were together even if it was for just a few hours.
Along with her loving husband, John, Barbara is survived by; 3 children, John N. (Rochelle) Whitney of Portville, Carrie A. (Cliff) Johnson and Amy M. (Shannon) Gould both of Olean; 7 grandchildren, Keisha, Keona, Johanthan, Tiara, Hope, Kenneth (Kaylee) and Samantha; 2 great granddaughters, Natalie and Elowyn and 2 siblings; Teresa (Al) Gallarno and Dave (Melissa) Hoffman of Memphis, TN.
Barbara was predeceased by, her parents and 4 siblings, Allen Hoffman, Helen Patricia “Patti” Curry, Wilbur “Bill” Hoffman and Richard Hoffman.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean. Burial will be in Five Mile Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.letromcintoshspinkfuneralhome.com
