Olean- Michael James “Mike” Halgas “Loving Companion, Father & Brother”
Michael J. Halgas, 47, of 807 Reed Street, formerly of 18 Riggs Street Franklinville, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022, shortly after arrival at Olean General Hospital due to an apparent heart attack at work.
Mike was born on November 11, 1974, in Olean and was the son of Chester R. Halgas and Julia E. Terrick. Mike was formerly married to Stacie Halgas who passed away February 10, 2022.
Mike graduated from Allegany High School in 1992 and spent most of his life in Western NY. He began working in a number of places including Kwik Fill, Waste Management Company for 12-13 years, then at Casella Waste. He returned to Waste Management but about three weeks ago he went back to Casella where he drove truck.
One of the proudest moments of Mike’s life was when his son, Hunter, was born in June 2002. Mike loved being a father and spending time with his son tinkering in the garage, riding trails or just hanging out. Mike could often be found with his friends, outside riding four-wheelers, fishing and just having fun. Cooking, especially grilling, was one of Mike’s passions, which he did often for his favorite people (and sharing with Rocko, his canine best friend, who misses him dearly). Mike was an avid Denver Broncos fan, he enjoyed watching his team and trying to convince others why they were better than the Bills. He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his stories and hilarious sense of humor. He truly brought the life to the party.
Mike is survived by his beloved son Hunter Halgas (20) of Olean, loving companion, Margarette “Beth” Dydek and her son Logun D. Harder (11) who he loved as his own, four sisters, Doris A. Hidalgo-Mota of Seminole, FL., Barb J. Wilson of Warner Robins, GA., Mary (Brian) Kasperzyk of Alexandria, VA., Patty A. (Mike) Brandow of Charlotte, NC., five nephews, and one niece.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Chester and Julia Halgas.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean on Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 1:00-4:00pm at which time a prayer service will be held. Rev. F. Patrick Melfi will officiate. Online condolences may be made at www.letromcintoshspinkfuneralhome.com
