Hinsdale - Bruce O. Blackmon “Loving Father, Grandfather & Great Grandfather” Bruce O. Blackmon of the Pines of Olean formerly of 3767 Main Street Hinsdale passed away shortly after arrival at Olean General Hospital on Saturday October 1, 2022. Bruce was born on June 6, 1931, in Hinsdale and was the son of Kenneth and Hettie Nobles Blackmon. Bruce was a 1949 graduate of Hinsdale Central. He worked for Dow Equipment in Olean for a couple of years. Bruce entered the United States Air Force on Jan. 31, 1952. Shortly after entering he married Lillian W. Eaton in Terrell, Texas on June 8, 1952. They had gone to school together since the fourth grade and started dating as seniors. He was discharged on Jan. 30, 1956, as a Staff Sargent, with four years active service and four years reserves. Bruce began working at Clark Brother as an inspector. In 1962 Bruce began working at the Hinsdale Central School in the maintenance department. Bruce retired in 1992 after 30 years as the Maintenance Supervisor. In 1995 they began to winter in Eustis, Florida, which they did for many years. Being a lifelong resident of Hinsdale, Bruce held several positions in the community including Institutional Representative for the Hinsdale Boy Scout Troop, he served 4 years as Hinsdale Town Councilman, 62-65, 2 years as Town Assessor, 74-75 he also served on the Water Dept. Supervisor and served as the voting machine custodian. Bruce was a member of the Hinsdale United Methodist Church, the Olean Masonic Lodge No. 252 F&AM and the Allegany Highland Amateur Ham Radio Club with “ka2hjc” as a call sign. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, bicycling, canoeing, woodworking, gardening & art. Bruce is survived by 3 sons: Terry B. (Betty) Blackmon of Olean, Gary L. (Kathy) Blackmon of Olean and Brad O. (Kristin) Blackmon of Erie, Pa. 8 Grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren a sister Lois Blackmon and a bother Richard (Elaine) Blackmon both of N. Towanda. Many Nieces & Nephews. Bruce was predeceased his loving wife of 63 years, Lillian, on February 10, 2015, a son Bruce David Blackmon in 1991 and a daughter in law Cecilia Smith Blackmon in 2008 and 4 bothers Kenny, Jessie, Donald & Stanley Blackmon. Friends will be received on Thursday, October 6, 2022, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean where Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 7. 2022 at 1:00 pm. The Rev. Roger N. Hains, Pastor Emeritus of the Black Creek Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Hinsdale Cemetery, Maplehurst. Memorials may be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, PO Box 22324, New York, NY 10087.
