As a Classmate of Basil, Union Springs Academy, graduate of the Class of 1978. In our youth we had so much fun it can't be measured, raising hell, listening to music, chasing young ladies, and just trying to survive our teenage years.
Basil was a hero of this Nation, having served in the United States Army.
A few years ago following the passing of his daughter......I know Basil was distraught as any father would be and I certainly can't understand that level of pain, sorrow and despair.
I will always remember Basil from our youth, a person who never backed down from anything, and who taught a lot of his friends about the real roots and bands of Rock-N-Roll. As I've aged, I've always remembered those groups and who got us to listen to their music. In a way he changed all our lives forever.
If our friend Basil is at Heaven's Gate, do yourselves a favor and sound Reveille, because Taps isn't good enough. Wake up because Basil is arriving, a new day awaits you and you'll be better for it at the end of the day.
