Nancy F. Wagner PORTVILLE — Nancy F. Wagner, 85, of Portville, passed away in the arms of her daughter after a long enjoyable life on Thursday (June 2, 2022) at Buffalo General Hospital. She is now in the arms of her beloved Lord Jesus Christ. She was born on Jan. 17, 1937, in Olean, to Sidney and Mildred LaFever, of Obi. She was married to the love of her life, Gerald C. “Jerry” Wagner, on May 17, 1957, who predeceased her on Nov. 6, 2004. Nancy attended Portville Central School, graduating in 1955. She began working at Hysol, in Olean, where she met Jerry. They lived in Hinsdale and Westons Mills, before buying the Portville home in which they lived the rest of their lives, in 1964. Nancy’s faith was very important to her, and she was a long-time member and volunteer at Portville Baptist Church as a Sunday school teacher. For the last 20 years or so, at West Clarksville Baptist Church, the women’s Sunday school class and Bible class. In her younger years, she was a member the Order of the Eastern Star, and after retirement, volunteered at Olean General Hospital and Meals on Wheels. Nancy loved being a library aide for Portville Elementary School for decades, and after retiring, also loved her job at Good Tidings Bookstore in Olean. She also worked for several years for the Cattaraugus County Board of Elections. She was never happier than when she was with her family, and she loved the time with her friends from school, whom she met weekly for lunch. She loved cheering on the Buffalo Bills and we hope you think of our mom when the winning score crosses the goal line in February. Nancy is survived by her two children, Cindy Wagner of Portville and Michael Wagner of Allegany; her grandchildren, Jason North of Portville, Brian (Joanna) North of Concord, N.C. and Amber Wagner of Tallahassee, Fla.; her great-grandchildren, Arianna North, Kyle North, Olivia North, Layla North, Hannah Moore and Harper Moore; her siblings, Ruth Edwards of Wellsville, Richard LaFever of Bluffton, S.C. and Michael (Sandy) LaFever of Obi; several nieces, nephews and cousins; dozens of good friends; and her cat, Callie. The service will immediately follow, with Pastor Wayne Hart, of West Clarksville Baptist Church, will preside. We invite everyone to wear blue, her favorite color. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville.
