Little Valley- Richard P. “Dick” Cousins “Loving Husband, Father & Grandfather” Richard P. ‘Dick” Cousins of 305 The Heights, formerly of Olean died Tuesday April 12, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his loving wife & family. Dick was born November 15, 1945, in Olean and was the son of Paul Richard and Mary Jane Nagurney Cousins. On August 29, 1969, in the Christ United Methodist Church, Olean he married the love of his life Janice L. Hicks who survives. Dick was a 1963 graduate of Olean High School. He served in the US Marines in the Vietnam War from June 30, 1964 to June 1, 1968. Dick received several metals during this time including the purple heart in 1968, the Combat Action Ribbon and the Good Conduct Metal. Following his service Dick attended the Police Academy and then started with Olean Police Department in 1972 retiring 30 years later in 2002. After Dicks retirement he took the position as the City Marshal for a period of time. Dick enjoyed fishing, weightlifting, playing racquetball, model railroad trains. He enjoyed going for coffee at various places and talking to his friends. Dick was a member of the Buffalo Gowanda Railroad Club, a member of the STERA Railroad Board and the Little Valley VFW. Along with his loving wife of 53 years, Dick is survived by; 3 daughters, Laura A. (Chris Maynard) Cousins of Olean, Amy L. (Pat) Burrell of North Carolina and Lisa M. (Jeff) Vargason of Ridgeway, PA; 7 grandchildren, Katrina, Storm, Dillon, Raine, Blake Christopher and Anthony; 2 great grandchildren, Charles and Gunnar. Dick was predeceased by his parents. Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and Wednesday, April 20, 2022 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at which time a funeral service will be held. Rev. F. Patrick Melfi will officiate. Full military honors will be accorded by the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892. Burial will be in the Veterans Field Of Honor in Mount View Cemetery, Olean.
