Olean – Paul W. Cashimere "Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother & friend" Paul Cashimere, 85, of Olean passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021 after a brief illness. Born December 7, 1935 in Olean, NY he was the son of William L. and Mary F. Grega Cashimere also of Olean. He was married to Margaret (Peggy) Cashimere, for over 60 years, who survives. Paul was a 1953 graduate of Olean High School and after high school he entered the Army where he served in the Korean War. Upon an honorable discharge in 1957, he went on to work at Standard Electronics in Olean for most of his professional career. He was a long-time member of the Archbishop Walsh Sports Booster Club and St. John’s Parish where in his post-retirement years he worked as the Maintenance Supervisor. You were guaranteed to see that Cashimere smile at the annual Festa Italiana and in the church. When he wasn’t working you would find him mowing the lawn, golfing, playing solitaire at his picnic table or in his “fort”. You were also sure to catch him at the end of the bar at the Pulaski Club with his shot and a beer, telling everyone that “it’s good for what ails ya”. He was a lover of all things John Wayne and the biggest Yankee fan around. You were a lot of things to so many: son, brother, husband, father, brother-in-law, uncle, grandpa, neighbor, friend. There are some people in life who have that rare gift of making everyone feel special, and you were one of those people. People enjoyed being around you, and always sought you out at gatherings, even though you were a man of few words. That didn’t matter, you always made those words count. While the world was drastically changing around you, you were steadfast, never letting anything get you down or keep you from smiling. Your passions in life were understated but profound --- enjoy your family and friends, take care of the homestead and serve your community. You lived the simple life you wanted, needing very little to make you happy, and teaching us how to appreciate all of life’s blessings. In addition to his wife, Peggy, Paul is survived by his six children, Donald (Terrie) Cashimere of Endwell, Christopher (Mary Jo) of Olean, Michael (Lori) of Coppell, TX, Timothy (Kristina) Olean, Susan (Greg) Byrnes of Geneseo and William (Jessica) also of Olean; 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; 7 sisters and many nieces and nephews who adored him. Paul was predeceased by his father and mother, and a sister, Susie Noonan. Friends will be received on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. 646 E. State Street, Olean. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021 at 10:00 am in St. John's Church. Burial will be in the St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. If desired, please send any donations to St. John’s Church, 931 North Union Street, Olean, NY 14760. Online condolences may be made at www.letromcintoshspinkfuneralhome.com
