Obituary of Laura Austin

Olean – Laura A. Austin "Devoted Wife & Loving Mother" Laura A. Austin of 337 Front Street went to be at peace with the lord Monday November 1st, 2021at her home following a long illness. Laura was born Feb. 12, 1964 and was a daughter of Arnold & Evelyn Fisk Brockel, Sr. On July 6, 1984 in St. Mary of the Angels Church she married her husband of 37 years Vohn M. Austin, who survives. Laura attended Olean High School and graduated from Portville Central Schools class of 1982. In 1987 she attended The Hair Academy in Newark Delaware and received a degree in Cosmetology. Laura worked at the Hair academy as well as a few other salons in Newark until returning to Olean. She worked in a number of salons in the Olean area as well as in the Deli department of Park and Shop Stores on 13th Street and Front Street. She also worked at YMCA Day Care on Wayne Street for a number of years as well as periodically working in a number of retail store including Boynton & JC Pennies. Laura enjoyed being in the outdoors and taking care of her grandchildren, and loved her cats Gizzee, Buddha, and Samuel. Laura also enjoyed traveling especially to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and Lancaster, PA. Laura is survived by her Husband, a son Steven R. Austin, three grandchildren Seth, Autumn, and Atlas all of Olean, two brothers David (Kathy) Brockel of Olean and Arnold (Andrea) Brockel Jr. of Almond. She is pre-deceased by her parents and a brother Richard Brockel. Friends will be received in The Basilica of St. Mary's on Tuesday November 9th from 1:00p.m. to 3:00p.m. at which time a Mass of Christian Burial will take place. Rev.
