Olean – Joan F. Bird Joan F. Bird passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Palliative Care, following an illness. Mrs. Bird was born on October 31, 1933 in Chicago, IL and was a daughter of Walter H. and Emma R. Kutz Wohlfeil. On Sept. 5, 1954 in Chicago, IL, she married the love of her life and husband of 58 years, Gilbert D. Bird, who predeceased her on March 30, 2013. Joan received her RN nursing degree from Augustana Nursing School in Chicago, IL and she moved to Rochester in 1954, where she worked as an RN at Strong Memorial Hospital for a period of time. Joan and her husband moved to Olean in 1956, where she was a stay at home mother. Later she began working as an RN at Valley View Nursing Home and later St. Joseph's Manor until her retirement. Joan was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she served on the Altar Committee and was very active in the "Ruth Guild." She was also involved, with her husband, on the local Christmas Gift Tree program and Rebuilding Together. Joan is survived by; 2 sons, Thomas G. (Donna) Bird of Pavilion and Peter A. (Beth) Bird of Webster; 3 daughters, Sharon D. (David) Vincent of Temple, TX, Ruth E. Perrin and Karen L. Holland both of Cuba; 10 grandchildren, Melissa, Matthew, Kristen, Daniel, Philip, Aimee, Steven, Drew, Justin, and Davis; and 6 great grandchildren. Along with her loving husband, Gil, Joan was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Soltys. Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean, on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, North 4th and Laurens, Olean, on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021 at 11:00 am. The Rev. Dr. Derek J. Cheek, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.letromcintoshspinkfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 419 Laurens Street, Olean, New York 14760, the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech Street, Johnson City, New York 13790 or to the Olean Food Pantry, 8 Leo Moss Drive, Olean, New York 14760.
