Joan M. van Zwanenberg of 102 South Street, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014 shortly after arrival at the Olean General Hospital.
Mrs. van Zwanenberg was born on June 24, 1926 in Olean and was a daughter of Andrew and Johanna Speranzo Letro. On Dec. 3, 1955 in the St. Bonaventure Parish in Allegany she married Nico van Zwanenberg, who survives.
Joan was a 1944 graduate of Allegany Central High School. She enjoyed traveling and wintering in Florida. She was an avid golfer and bowler. Truly Joan greatest love was her husband and family. She loved them dearly and enjoyed spending as much time with them as she could. She will be remembered by her family & friends as a very kind and caring person.
She was a member of Our Lady of Angels Church and their Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a member Olean Zonta Club, Cuba Circulating Library Board, Cuba Current Topic Club, numerous bridge clubs, Cuba PTA and girl/boy scouts.
Joan is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Nico van Zwanenberg; three children, Michele vZ (Paul F.) Conklin of Cuba, Vincent E. (James Sherrard) van Zwanenberg of Cuba, and Margaret E. (George F.) Barton III of Madison, Va.; five grandchildren, George F. Barton IV, Patrick (Kelly) Barton, Johanna (Jesse) Larson, Molly P. Conklin, and Nico V. Barton; three great grandchildren, Lyla Rae Barton, Waverly Rose Barton & Jackson Cole Larson; and many loving nieces & nephews.
Joan was pre-deceased by 11 siblings, Joseph Letro, Mary Marrone, Katherine Letro, Margaret Fisina, Francis Letro, Andrew Letro, Sylvester Letro, Irene Letro, Helen Bizzaro, Elizabeth Letro and Vincent A. Letro.
Friends will be received this evening Aug. 4, 2014 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and tomorrow, Aug. 5, 2014 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00pm in the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #24 Genesee Pkwy, Cuba. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday Aug. 6, 2014 at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Angels Church. The Rev. Dennis J.J. Mancuso, Pastor, will celebrate. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Cuba.
