Obituary of Charles H. Shafer

Olean – Charles H. "Charlie" Shafer Charles H. "Charlie" Shafer, of 1115 West Sullivan Street, passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at Buffalo General Hospital, following an illness. Charlie was born on June 3, 1951 in Cuba and was a son of Charles Henry and Rose Mary Williams Shafer. On June 20, 1970, at the First Baptist Church in Friendship, he married his wife of 51 years, Linda Twichell, who survives. Charlie attended Friendship Central School. He worked as a Welder at Dresser Rand in Olean for 42 years, retiring in 2016. Charlie was a member of the Central Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, a trustee, and a deacon. He did maintenance and loved being at the church. Charlie was an avid NASCAR fan. His favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt, Sr. In his younger years, Charlie enjoyed hunting and watching Hot Rod and Classic Car Shows. He loved his puppy, Sara Joy, but he truly loved the Lord and his family. Along with his loving wife, Linda, Charlie is survived by; 3 children, Charles A. (Rhonda) Shafer of Harrison Valley, PA, Rosa L. Hauss of Emporium, PA, and Holly L. (Steven) Shafer-Mead of Olean; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 3 siblings, Mark (Diane) Shafer of Belfast, Glenda (Harold) Hurlburt of Wellsville, and Pamela (Harold) Cook of Friendship; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Central Baptist Church, 701 W. State St., Olean, on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, at which time a Funeral Service will be held. The Rev. Alan Yates, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Friendship at the family's convenience.
