Obituary of Sr. Anne Mary Lillis, OSF

Born: Anne Mary Lillis on March 27, 1940, Lackawanna, NY Died: August 26, 2021 at Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY Daughter of: John and Mary Lennon Lillis, Lackawanna, NY Sr. Anne entered the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany on September 8, 1958, was received into the Congregation on July 2, 1959 and professed her final vows on July 3, 1966. Sister devoted herself to the life and mission of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany for 63 years. Anne attended St. Teresa Grammar School and Mt. Mercy Academy, both in Buffalo, NY, graduating in 1957. She attended St. Elizabeth Teachers College, Allegany, NY, graduating from St. Bonaventure University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She later took graduate level courses at Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY. Sister dedicated 24 years to educating children in Congregational schools in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Following her many years in education, Sr. Anne was called to administrative work and in 1985, Sr. Anne volunteered at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Camden, NJ, performing clerical duties and working in the mailroom. Upon her retirement in May 2020, Sr. Anne was warmly welcomed home to St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, NY. Sister is predeceased by her parents, John and Mary Lennon Lillis, six brothers; James, Paul, Eugene, Edward, Michael and Fr. John Paul Lillis, OFM, a Franciscan Friar. She is survived by a sister, Mary Lillis Przepasniak; two nieces, Mary Jo Bishop, Amy Breski; three nephews, Jeffrey, Przepasniak, Edward Lillis, Jr., Kevin Lillis and several grandnieces and grandnephews. A wake service will be held at 4:00pm on Sunday, August 29, 2021 in the Chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM Monday, August 30, 2021 in the Chapel of St. Elizabeth Motherhouse. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany, NY.
