Obituary of Shirley A. VanHorn

Shirley A. VanHorn, of 413 W. Green St., passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 at her home. Shirley was born July 8, 1949 in Olean and was a daughter of Norman and LaVerna Hutcheson VanHorn. Shirley left home at an early age and headed north to Rochester. There she married and gave birth first to Bryan (June of 1968) and then Christine (April of 1971). She earned a degree in Cosmetology and began doing hair and nails as a career. She eventually opened her own business, serving many clients with Bryan and Christine pitching in by shampooing hair. Shirley retired to Olean and picked up several new hobbies. She loved painting, music, and bragging about her grandchildren. Shirley was a generous and thoughtful woman. Her smile and compassion will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Shirley is survived by one son, Bryan L. �Dani-el� Mason of San Antonio, TX; one daughter, Christine L. Mason of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren, Steven, Mykela, & Mykenzie Mason; and one sister-in-law, Sandy (Leo) VanHorn. Shirley was predeceased by two brothers, Leo VanHorn on Aug. 28, 2006, and Robert �Bobby� VanHorn on Nov. 28, 1994. Friends will be received Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc. #646 E. State Olean from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, at which time a Funeral Service will be held.
