Obituary of Richard DeForest Childs

Olean – Richard DeForest Childs Richard DeForest Childs of 909 Osgood Ave. passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021, at his home. Richard was born Jan. 1, 1952 and was a son of DeForest and Ada Fedick Childs. On Dec. 13, 1975 in Lebanon, NY he married his wife of 46 years, Deidra A. Branagan who survives. Richard is a class of 1970 Ellicottville High School Graduate. He continued his education at JCC and earned his Associates Degree. Richard worked for Aramark for a long time then he began working for ALCAS as a security guard, then on the manufacturing, then to block shop and shipping, retiring from ALCAS in 2019 after over 20 years. Richard loved people and was very active in his church. He gave a lot of his time to helping kids and teenagers. Richard was a coach and referee for Boys Soccer and a coach for Girls Softball. He enjoyed cheering on and yelling at his favorite football team, the Buffalo Bills. He loved to garden and was known for his hot peppers. Along with his loving wife, Deidra, Richard is survived by; 4 children, Nicole R. (Jon) Schink of Wellsville, Jeremy D. (Elizabeth) Childs of Bradford, PA, Aaron M. Childs and Brody J. Childs both of Olean; 5 grandchildren, Noah, Declan, Emmet, Liam, and Oliver. Richard was predeceased by 2 brothers Raymond and Robert Childs. Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 East State Street, Olean on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at the Obi Community Church, on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 11:00 am. The Rev. David Cook, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery.
