Olean – Russell W. "Pepper" Clute "Loving Husband, Father, & Grandfather" Russell W. "Pepper" Clute, of 954 North Union Street, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at The Pines Health & Rehab, following a short illness. Russell was born on May 17, 1936 in Olean and was a son of Wesley O. and Laura J. Smith Clute. On February 8, 1958 at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Olean, he married his wife of 63 years, Nancy A. Hitchcock, who survives. Russell served in the US Army from 1954 to August 31, 1961. He worked as a welder for Dresser-Rand in Olean until his retirement in 1998. Russell was a member of the Enchanted Mountains Lodge #252 F & AM since 1963. They volunteered for many years for Meals on Wheels. Russell and his wife, Nancy, enjoyed extensive traveling in the US, including Alaska and Hawaii. He spent much of his time at their summer cottage in Franklinville and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. In the past, Russell and his wife, Nancy, spent a lot of time on their Harley motorcycle. Along with his loving wife, Nancy, Russell is survived by; 3 children, Stephen G. (Christine) Clute and Wesley W. Clute both of Cuba, and Christina M. (Mike Chew) Euston of Olean; 4 grandchildren, Ryan, Bryan, Amber, & Taylor; several great grandchildren; a sister, Frances "Betty" Dolan of Niagara Falls; and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Jane Freeman of Florida. Russell was predeceased by; his parents; a son, Kevin L. Clute on November 28, 2012; and 5 siblings, Stanley Clute, Cecil Clute, Twins Leo and Leon Clute, and Alberta Clute Sevenpiper. There will be no services at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a date and time to be announced. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Olean. Arrangements are under the direction of the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 East State Street, Olean.
