Olean – Fred J. Fessel "Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather"
Fred J. Fessel, of 601 West Green Street, passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at the Buffalo VA Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Fred was born on July 14, 1940 in the Bronx and was a son of William C. and Dorothy Sergeant Fessel. On Oct. 12, 1976 in Manhattan, he married his wife of 44 years, Catherine F. Murphy, who survives.
Fred grew up in the Bronx before being drafted into the US Army, where he served from January 24, 1966 to January 29, 1972. He attended Brooklyn College in 1976. Fred and his wife, Catherine, moved from Brooklyn to Olean in 2017. He enjoyed gardening and long walks, and loved a good meal and a great dessert. Tad's Steakhouse was his favorite restaurant. Fred also loved family trips to the Zoo and The Natural History Museum, the circus, New York Baseball games, and romantic comedies, but most of all he loved spoiling his wife, Catherine with cards and spending time with his children.
Along with his loving wife, Catherine, Fred is survived by; 5 children, Bridget (Geovanny) Quisiguina of Brooklyn, Michael Fessel of Olean, David (Christie) Fessel of Jersey City, NJ, John (Anna) Fessel of Cuba, and Linda (Errol) Gordon of West Milford, NJ; 3 grandchildren, Tatiana Arrington, Nathaniel Quisiguina, and Brendon Gordon; 2 siblings, Virginia Fessel and William Fessel; 2 nieces, Ginger and Theresa; and 2 nephews, George and Andrew.
Fred was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Fessel.
Friends will be received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home, Inc., 646 East State Street, Olean, on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 10:00 am. Burial will be at Mt. View Cemetery in Olean.
