SISTER THOMAS ROSE REDLING, OSF
Born: Margaret Marie Redling on May 6, 1923 in New York, NY.
Died: March 13, 2020, St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, NY
Daughter of: Michael and Rose Czernalabics Redling of Williston Park, NY.
Sr. Thomas Rose entered the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, NY, on September 8, 1944, was received into the Congregation on August 15, 1945, and professed her final religious vows on August 16, 1952. Committed to the Franciscan charism, Sister lived for 76 years as a devoted member of the Allegany Franciscan Sisters sharing her life in community and ministry.
Sister Thomas Rose attended schools in Mineola, NY, beginning at Corpus Christi Elementary and graduating from Mineola High School. She attended St. Elizabeth Teacher College in Allegany, NY, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from St. Bonaventure University. Sister continued her studies at St. Bonaventure University and Malloy College, New York, NY, to attain her Advance Certification in History.
Sister began her ministry in the field of education in congregational schools in New York, New Jersey and Florida, teaching mainly middle school grades. She served as Principal and Superior at Corpus Christi, Miami, FL. In 1982, Sister became a parish ministry trainee for the sick and elderly at Espiritu Santo Parish in Safety Harbor, FL. Later, she served as the receptionist in the Pastoral Care Department at St. Joseph Hospital, Tampa, FL. She continued her ministry in healthcare until she retired in 2007. Sister was warmly welcomed home to St. Elizabeth Motherhouse, Allegany, NY in 2012.
Sister Thomas Rose was predeceased by her parents: Michael and Rose Redling, four brothers: Joseph, Michael, John and Walter Redling; four sisters: Mary Regelmann, Theresa Abbondondelo, Rose Ciascio and Ann Ruis. She is survived by one niece, Joan Abbondanelo and many grandnieces, and grandnephews.
A Wake service will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at 6:30 PM in St. Elizabeth Motherhouse Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
