It was with great sadness that I read about Dorla’s passing in the Cuba Patriot Obituary section. Both Dorla and “Big” Andy acted as mentors and taught me that hard work and smart thinking would help me become a better person in my future years. Both Dorla and Andy expected me to act like an adult and be responsible for my own actions from the time I started out as an inexperienced summer farm hand at the age of 12. Dennis Morris also provided a firm guiding hand, and intriguing stories (Woodstock), all those summers ago. It was not all work. Euchre, beer, and Polish sausage were also part of the things I learned to appreciate.
I continue to use the wisdom Dorla and Andy Zalar provided. I now have my own stories about those times to pass on to anyone willing to listen. Dorla, thank you for the tough schooling.
